Mai Kao Xiong

SPRING 2020 Engagement Scholarship Recipient

During my time at the Children’s Home Society, I was able to learn and improve on skills and knowledge. My supervisor Molly, taught me how the adoption process works and the routine reports that families had to submit after the adoption process. Not only that, I was able to learn more about the adoption in China during the rise of the one-child policy through a book that I borrowed from my supervisor. This book gave me insight on how chaotic the adoption process used to be and how much it has grown stable in the few years.

With the help of the scholarship, I was able to focus on my engagement activity, providing more hours towards learning about my role and my work as an International Adoption Intern. Some skills I have improved during this time was learning how to organize my files in order to go through them quickly, improving on my Microsoft skills, and also learning how to efficiently write an email to families without coming off as rude and arrogant. This internship has taught me more about my interests and I am excited to learn find more opportunities like this in the future. With the help of this scholarship, I am looking forward to exploring more chances for internships where I can learn more about myself in order to help my future.
