WINTER BREAK 2020 Engagement Scholarship Recipient

The three weeks I have spent in Ghana has been a life-changing and humbling experience. It was eye-opening to see people who have less by American standards, but still have so much joy and less worries about life than I experience in America. Before coming to Ghana, I had a lot of financial worries. It is scary to go to another country and not have a way to pay for it. I almost didn’t apply because I was not confident that I would get any scholarships. Although I still had to take out loans, the amount I needed to take out decreased due to receiving the PES Engagement Scholarship. Taking out fewer loans was a huge stress reliever because my college debt is already high. I was able to save more money to experience the country and partake in cultural activities I would not have been able to afford without the scholarship. I appreciate and thank PES for giving me this scholarship. I was able to enjoy my time and live in the moment because of this scholarship.
