WINTER BREAK 2020 Engagement Scholarship Recipient
This scholarship has impacted me by helping me financially afford my two week study abroad program in Costa Rica. I have gained a lot of knowledge about the culture, and got to know some amazing people along the way. I have been able to talk to several local Costa Ricans in different fields about how they are utilizing information technology (IT) to help their businesses and communities. Myself and two other students teamed up to present to a local call center about how they can utilize “the cloud” to help increase their productivity along with explaining how they can benefit from fully transitioning to a cloud based system in the future. I have also enjoyed comparing and contrasting the differences in how IT works in Costa Rica versus the United States, and it has opened my eyes to several growth opportunities and the demand for more IT experts internationally.
This experience has shown me the current IT capabilities here as well as the potential future impact technology will have all around Costa Rica. Throughout this journey, I have also gained new and fun experiences such as white water rafting, grinding freshly harvested coffee beans, visiting Manuel Antonio National Park, and walking up mountains around the beautiful city of San Ramón. This experience has impacted me in ways I will cherish forever. I now feel even more motivated to make a difference around the world with my ever-expanding knowledge of IT. Pura Vida!
