SPRING 2019 Engagement Scholarship Recipient
The PES engagement scholarship helped me achieve financial security while in Cape Town. Without finances on my mind, I was able to put all of my energy into my study abroad experience. With my time, I’m able to focus on the classes I’m taking here, where I’m able to learn about the South African healthcare system and its strengths and weaknesses. I’m able to focus on helping to supplement this system, volunteering as a phlebotomist in the Groote Schuur Hospital (where the first-ever heart transplant took place!). With Cape Town being the most rainbow of all the cities in the rainbow nation, I have the opportunity to work with an array of different types of people who are all coming from different cultures. I plan on taking what I learn here and taking it as I work in healthcare all over the world.
